《英语听说技能训练》是面向伊利诺伊工程学院一年级学生开设的课程，是完成基础英语阶段学习后对于英语听说能力进行的专项提升。本课程通过挖掘丰富的视听资源帮助学生丰富学识，增长见识，塑造品格；融合“互动教学法”和“任务型教学法”等多种理念，并注重让学生通过自主学习、合作学习和项目式学习提高听说能力，培养批判性思维，深刻理解素材内涵。

 English Listening & Speaking is a course designed for first-year students at the Illinois Institute of Technology, offering targeted enhancement of listening and speaking abilities after the learning of Fundamental English. By leveraging a rich array of audio-visual resources, the course expands students’ knowledge, broadens their perspectives, and shapes their character. It integrates pedagogical approaches such as Interactive Teaching and Task-Based Language Teaching, while emphasizing autonomous learning, collaborative learning, and project-based learning to improve students’ listening and speaking skills, cultivate critical thinking, and foster a deep understanding of the materials.

English Comprehensive Skills is a required basic course for non-English major undergraduates. Fundamental College English and Intermediate College English are the preparatory courses. This course is positioned as an extended curriculum course to cultivate students’ practical ability of using English after taking basic College English courses. The blended teaching mode is adopted to help students learn English listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation. The teaching focuses on the explanation and training of language application abilities, which aims at enabling students to acquire the abilities of using English at the level of College English Band Four.

Intercultural Communication is a College English extension course for non-English majors. Students are expected to have acquired sound foundation in English language knowledge and skills. Fundamental College English and Intermediate College English are the preparatory courses. The teaching content covers the concept and characteristics of culture, the central role of values within culture, the components of communication, and the differences in purpose, manner, and style between Eastern and Western intercultural communication. It also addresses how to overcome intercultural communication barriers and enhance cultural adaptability.

The EAP (English for Academic Purposes) is an extension-level university English course for non-English majors, preceded by Fundamental College English and Intermediate College English. Guided by the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach, the course centers on English for Academic Purposes while deeply integrating AI literacy education. Through academic content centered on artificial intelligence, this course aims to cultivate students’ English language skills, academic critical thinking abilities, and interdisciplinary innovation capacities, while simultaneously enhancing their international academic communication proficiency and artificial intelligence literacy.

Advanced English Listening and Speaking is one of the expansion modules in the compulsory general education courses offered for non-English majors. Fundamental College English and Intermediate College English are the preparatory courses. The course focuses on enhancing English listening and speaking skills in authentic contexts. It covers a diverse range of themes. By integrating traditional and innovative audio-visual exercises, it trains students' listening comprehension and information synthesis abilities. The course incorporates the new tasks from the CET-4 and CET-6 exams to help students pass these proficiency tests. Speaking practice emphasizes pragmatics and situational contexts. Various theme-based tasks are used to help students overcome language barriers in communication, which will lay a solid foundation for students’ daily communication, academic discussions, and global exchanges.

Fundamental College English and Intermediate College English are the preparatory courses. This course is designed to enhance students’ understanding of China, facilitate communication with the world, and serve the workplace. By improving students’ social language skills and intercultural communication competence, the course aims to broaden their international perspectives, enhance their professional qualities, and ultimately achieve the fundamental educational goal of “cultivating virtue and nurturing talent”. 《英语思辨阅读与写作》是针对全校非翻译专业二年级本科生开设的通识必修课，《基础英语》和《进阶英语》为先修课程。课程通过指导学生阅读题材广泛的各种英语文章，在理解文章的基础上对文章观点的真实性、有效性和价值进行质疑、分析、推理和判断，最终形成自己的观点，并在此过程中培养和提升学生的批判性阅读能力以及写作能力。

The course English Critical Reading and Writing is a compulsory general education course for second-year undergraduate students who are not majoring in English. The prerequisite courses are Fundamental College English and Intermediate College English courses. The course guides students to read various English articles of diverse topics, analyze the authenticity, validity, and value of the arguments in the articles, and form their own judgments through questioning, analysis, reasoning, evaluation, and decision-making. The course aims to cultivate and enhance students’ critical reading and writing skills.

《翻译实务》课程介绍

 翻译实务是针对全校非翻译专业二年级本科生开设的通识必修课，《基础英语》和《进阶英语》为先修课程。通过该课程的翻译学习，使学生巩固在大学英语课程中所学的语言知识，并在翻译实践中进行应用，了解翻译工作的特点及过程。通过翻译实践，找出不足，积累经验，为从事相关工作奠定基础，培养学生作为译者必备的责任感。

 Translation Practice is one of the expansion modules in the compulsory general education courses offered for non-English majors. Fundamental College English and Intermediate College English are the preparatory courses. With the learning of English-Chinese and Chinese-English translation, students will come to know how to apply the principles, theories and skills that they have received from the theoretical courses to translation practice, thus getting better prepared for engaging in related work. And at the same time, students will develop a sense of responsibility which is one of the essential qualities for translators.
